About RAFA FERNANDEZ
Rafael Ángel Fernández Piedra (San José, October 24, 1935), AKA "Rafa Fernández", is a Costa Rican painter. He has done multiple solo and group exhibitions. His art is distinguished mainly by the theme related to femininity and its mysteries. He obtained three times the Aquileo J. Echeverría National Prize in Visual Arts (1968, 1972 and 1975), although the first time he rejected it because he did not agree with the jury's opinions. In the mid-1980s, he received the Santiago Prize in Spain at the 52nd Autumn Salon of the Cultural Center of the Villa de Madrid. He also won the Magón Prize in 2002.
